Take Charge
WEATHER POLICY: IF GRAND RAPIDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS (GRPS) ARE CANCELLED, THIS GROUP WILL ALSO BE CANCELLED.
The goal of the Take Charge program is to intervene in the cycle of addiction and incarceration in which the women find themselves trapped. The CJC ministry, based on twenty eight years of experience, and now combined with 70x7 Life Recovery, believes that hope, positive role models, and education are tools needed to break the cycle.
Take Charge is a twelve-week class designed for women offenders, women ex-offenders, women struggling with substance abuse and women in other types of transition. It provides life skills education and a support group (with case management if needed) to allow members to take charge of their lives in a positive fashion. Professionals provide interactive workshops on topics such as: self-esteem, substance abuse, personal finances, spirituality, anger management, effective communication, parenting skills, physical and spiritual health, nutrition, positive relationships and domestic violence. People who have conquered addiction problems provide motivation through the telling of their stories. Childcare and transportation are provided to enable the members to attend all sessions.
